When I heard the term “personal development” I couldn’t help but shudder and shrug off the idea of needing to go to the “self-help” section of the book store. All I could think was “NO thanks.” However, when I started my fitness business 6 years ago, I was bit by the personal development bug.
You see, it’s not about “self-help” or having problems that need to be solved… it’s about committing to a life of being a continual learner. It’s about investing in your self, every day, in order to live your best life for yourself and of course for the people you love. Think about it- when you become a better version of yourself, everything else improves… your relationships, your work, your energy, your productivity, your fitness, your income, your LIFE.
Once I dove into personal development for myself (and stopped judging it!), I found that truly everything around me started to evolve. Most importantly, my mindset changed and I can honestly say that many of the wins I’ve had in life over the past 6 years are from the techniques, ideas, thoughts, and knowledge I gained from personal development.
So this year, I challenge you to dive into personal development and check it out for yourself! Here are three books that are classics that you MUST read this year that will help you get things DONE and make some serious change.
- The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson. This is an absolute must read because it will help you in every single aspect of your life. This easy to read book is not only filled with nuggets of gold on how to make small changes every day that add up to a big difference, but it also has a ton of questions for you to personally think on and make change on. I love it!
- The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth by John Maxwell. Let me first start by saying that ANYTHING you read by John Maxwell will be impeccable, he is one of my favorite authors and leaders. This book however stands out to me as it will give you such a solid foundation for your personal development journey!
- Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy. This book was actually one of my first personal development books that I read and it truly helps you to prioritize correctly and blast through your daily tasks. Trust me, you’ll love this method and will be blown away by the efficiency it brings you.
I hope you enjoy these books as much as I have. I have SO many more suggestions, and continue to feature and blog about them. In the meantime, feel free to get a list of over 50 of my favorite personal development books and podcasts here. Enjoy!
